MBCY Classes & Workshops
Yin Yoga supports balance for a busy life, melting tension and stress in the body and mind. Yin Yoga releases blocked energy that can cause fatigue, frustration and extreme mental states like anxiety and agitation. Yin Yoga allows everyone to relax into the elastic nature of muscle, connective tissue and the organs. By staying in poses for 3-5 minutes, space is created for deep healing and rejuvenation. This class is a beneficial experience for everyone, no matter where you are in your yoga practice!
Inspired by the classical Hatha/Raja Yoga lineage of Sri Dharma Mittra, and the integrating practices of MindBody Centering Yoga, this class offers a 'complete' yoga practice. Our intention is to share the inspiration of grace with beautiful music and the ongoing action of presence for the entire clan…with no commercial breaks. :)
The richness of this class is rooted in the steadiness of the ‘8-limbs’ of yoga, which will be pointed to as we explore mantra, Pranayama (breathing exercises) and the many levels of Asana (physical postures). There are several rounds of a natural form of Surya Namaskara (sun salutations). Familiar postures (such as warriors & balancing) will be offered with different optional variations so everyone can practice at their own level. We will cover inversions, including ways to practice these powerful postures even as a novice yogi. Class ends with deep rest. Be Peace.
Foundations of Asana is designed to help anyone understand the basic powerful principles of Yoga, including breathing practices, Asana postures, anatomy, undistracted focusing, and meditation. Each class will cover a particular aspect of movement (for example forward bending), and examine the core benefits and techniques for execution in an intelligent, personalized manner. A student will learn some foundational sun salutations, and practices to do at home so they can deepen their understanding of how and why we practice yoga. Nina Be (ERYT500) teaches this class. Often there will be other teachers in the room as well, allowing space for each individuals needs, with personalized guidance. Open to all levels.
Yoga therapist Nina Be will guide this 3 part practice to open the Bodymind, through the principles of Sthira (steadiness) and Sukha (ease).
The first part begins with calming the nervous system out of stress and reactivity, through integrating and grounding yoga.
The second part will be a guided mindful yoga practice of the the 12 essential MBC Yoga postures that harness the ancient techniques of the eight limbs of yoga, to facilitate optimal breathing, body relaxation and stopping the busy mind. The students are invited to participate at their own level of need. The 12 essential postures are Savasana, Bakasana, Tadasana, Uttanasana, Ashva Sanchalanasana, Phalakasana, Adho Mukha Svasana, Sirsasana, Salamba Sarvangasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana (with variations), Eka Pada Kapotasana & Matsyendrasana.
For the third and final (30 minute) part of class, students are invited to find a comfortable way to lay on the ground or sit on the floor. This section includes a Yoga Nidra with singing bowls. Sometimes called a ‘sound bath’, these sessions are supported by the soothing vibrations of ancient metal and crystal singing bowls, to relax different aspects of a person that may be stressed, or blocking access to potential range of motion and comfort.
Whether you are a seasoned athlete, recovering from an injury or surgery, or have recently decided it's time to bump the self-care routine up a notch, this open level class will be highly supportive.

MindBody Centering Yoga Inversion practices can be the most health promoting of Asanas, but there can be so much fear that gets in the way…
Did you know that Inversions are a form of meditation? Yes, all MBCY fundamentals are built on meditation at its foundation. The MBCY method for approaching anything that feels inaccessible is through information and experience. We break down every aspect of the pose, physically, mentally, neurologically and developmentally so that we can build the pose with intelligence and presence. We slowly acclimate the nervous system out of fight-or-flight responses that sabotage our ability to focus and find calm. As we learn how to move into a parasympathetic state of calm, the poses arrive with patience and breath.
During this workshop we will organize the various aspects of our foundation (hands, wrists, arms and shoulders) upon a strongly integrated core that drives the legs skyward as we understand each posture from fingers to toes. This enjoyable and inspiring ability will create longevity and fearlessness for years to come!
**You must have a physical yoga practice at least 3 times a week for a year to enter this work safely.
