FAQs :: RYT 300/500 PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
Actually, I have a few questions...
What is the Advanced Training program, and who is it for?
The MBCY Advanced Training focuses on equipping yoga teachers and students with researched, sophisticated and systematic approaches to powerful yogic techniques. In this training we investigate the body’s innate intelligences through various systems. With mental clarity, we understand how to create transformative yogic practices, both for ourselves and for others. We come to know our minds and bodies by focusing on enhancing our physical, mental, emotional and energetic potential.
The MBCY 300-hour curriculum includes Classical Yoga (Hatha Raja), Ayurveda, Mindfulness, Nutrition, Yoga Sutras, Restorative Yoga, Kriya, Meridian Asana, Creative Journaling, and Hands-On Assists. The MBCY curriculum is designed to affirm the experience of centered wellness in order to create deep physical, mental, and energetic peace.
This program consists of training weekends, specialty workshops, advanced asana classes, and additional hours of self-study and research.

How demanding and time consuming is the MBCY 300-hour training?
MBCY’s 300-hour training incorporates specialized readings, mentoring, guest experts, personalized supervision, and active participation in support of students in the MBCY 300-hour classroom and in the world. The Advanced Studies student will be expected to support others with mentoring practices, including meditation, asana, pranayama, yoga nidra, anatomy, and ayurveda.
Do I need to be in good health to participate in a teacher training?
Our MBCY trainings are open to all levels. As you will learn, when we meet people where they are, we attain understanding and compassion. Yoga is much more than a physical practice. That being said, please review the graduation requirements to understand what is expected of all students during the program. If you have concerns about your ability to complete any of the expected requirements, please feel free to confidentially speak with us any time during your application process so that we can support you in making the best decision for your health and your journey.
How many students do you expect to take part in the MBCY 300-hour training?
Our training cohorts are deliberately small – usually between 4-12 people. A small group allows there to be room for everyone and for everyone to receive individualized attention from our exceptional group of Master teachers to make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This MBCYT provides a rare opportunity to study with experts in the fields of Yoga (Classical, Vinyasa, Restorative), Mindfulness (in the lineage of Thich Nhat Hanh), Ayurveda and Alexander Technique.
What does Yoga Alliance require for the 500-hour registry mark?
Yoga Alliance, as of their website in November 2015, requires the following for RYT-500 certification: A recognized 200-hour certification, advanced training (totaling 300+ contact hours), and 100 additional hours of yoga teaching experience, either privately or in class settings.
Can you offer any other information?
If you have any questions at all, an MBCY staff member would be happy to speak with you in depth. You can email us @ firstname.lastname@example.org and someone will get back to you within 5 business days.
Is this an inter-disciplinary approach to yoga training?
Yes. MBCY wants our teachers to be fully equipped to meet a person where they are.
The foundation of the MBCY lineage rests on the principals shared in the yoga sutras and practiced in the social activism of peace taught by Thich Nhat Hanh. We teach primary tenets of yoga technique from the Krishnamacharya lineage of Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, and the Hatha Raja Yoga of Dharma Mittra. Other layers of master teachings come from classical ballet, modern dance, theatre, Alexander technique, classical music, art history, meditation and BodyMind Centering.
What is a typical weekend module schedule?
We begin each training weekend with a Friday evening meeting from 6-9pm. We meet Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30am to 6:30pm. A more detailed schedule can be discussed in your private meeting with the program director.
Can I attend if I am not from the Triangle area?
Yes. We can help you connect to people in the area for lodging. Durham is a fascinating place!
How do we track hours?
Your MBCY manual is packed with helpful tools to support your practice. No worries!
Can I get credit for training I have done in the past or at another school?
Everything you do is evident in your Self and we acknowledge your integrity. Because the MBCY technique is unique all hours for our programs need to be attended.
What are the deadlines?
The sooner you apply the better. This will help you prepare for your training, and save you money on tuition. We will accept applications until 48 hours before a training starts, but keep in mind that the closer you get to the training, the more challenging it becomes to schedule your interview, and the more likely it will be that the training is full.
The deadline for completing all certification requirements is 90 days after the last day of the training.
How do I prepare for the program?
We suggest that everyone interested in this work come and take class at Global Breath Studio so as to become familiar with the language and effects of MBCY technique. Also, it will be of great support to clear one’s life of clutter, noisy media, aggression, junk food and cellular device attachment.
We wish you peace.
